Second Conditional

💭 Hypothetical: If + past, would + verb

Para situaciones imaginarias o improbables en el presente/futuro.

If I had more money, I would travel the world. /ɪf aɪ hæd mɔːr ˈmʌni aɪ wʊd.../ Si tuviera más dinero, viajaría por el mundo.

If she spoke English, she would get the job. /ɪf ʃiː spoʊk ˈɪŋɡlɪʃ.../ Si ella hablara inglés, conseguiría el trabajo.

What would you do if you won the lottery? /wɑːt wʊd juː duː ɪf juː wʌn.../ ¿Qué harías si ganaras la lotería?

If I were you, I would accept the offer. /ɪf aɪ wɜːr juː aɪ wʊd.../ Si yo fuera tú, aceptaría la oferta.

I wouldn't do that if I were you. /aɪ ˈwʊdənt duː ðæt.../ Yo no haría eso si fuera tú.

I wish + past simple

I wish + past simple = deseo que la realidad fuera diferente AHORA.

I wish I spoke French. /aɪ wɪʃ aɪ spoʊk frɛntʃ/ Ojalá hablara francés. (pero no hablo)

She wishes she had more free time. /ʃiː ˈwɪʃɪz ʃiː hæd.../ Ella desearía tener más tiempo libre.

I wish I were taller. /aɪ wɪʃ aɪ wɜːr ˈtɔːlər/ Ojalá fuera más alto.

We wish we lived closer to the beach. /wiː wɪʃ wiː lɪvd.../ Ojalá viviéramos más cerca de la playa.
