El verbo más versátil del inglés

Get es probablemente el verbo más usado y versátil del inglés. Tiene decenas de significados según el contexto.

GET + sustantivo: Obtener, recibir, comprar
I got a new phone. / Did you get my email?

GET + adjetivo: Volverse, ponerse
It's getting cold. / She got angry.

GET + preposición: Phrasal verbs
Get up (levantarse) / Get along (llevarse bien) / Get over (superar)

GET + past participle: Voz pasiva informal
He got fired. / We got married.

HAVE vs HAVE GOT

Posesión formal e informal

Ambos expresan posesión, pero con diferente registro y gramática.

HAVE: Más formal, más usado en AmE
I have a car. / She doesn't have any siblings.
Negativa: don't/doesn't have. Pregunta: Do you have...?

HAVE GOT: Más informal, más usado en BrE
I've got a car. / She hasn't got any siblings.
Negativa: haven't/hasn't got. Pregunta: Have you got...?

⚠️ 'Have got' SOLO para posesión presente. Para hábitos o acciones, usa 'have':
✗ I've got breakfast at 8. → ✓ I have breakfast at 8.

Sujeto expletivo en inglés

Ambos son 'sujetos vacíos' en inglés, pero con funciones distintas.

THERE IS/ARE: Introduce existencia o presencia
There is a cat on the roof. / There are 30 students in the class.

IT IS: Describe algo ya conocido, tiempo, clima, distancia, opiniones
It is raining. / It's 10 o'clock. / It's difficult to learn Chinese.

⚠️ Error común de hispanohablantes:

✗ There is hot today → ✓ It is hot today.
